Blanke reflects about his relationship with painting as follows: „Is there anything more striking an important in painting than to deal with painting itself? The artist produces his own paint. It allows him to choose out of a huge variety of colours which all act differently. Working in transparent layers he can show both the progess of painting and the thrilling edge between figure and background.
